Kent Burnham has joined the Leroy H. Smith School as our new second grade teacher. He brings with him several years of experience at the elementary school level. He is excited to be joining the staff.
Kent was born and raised in Littleton, Colorado, a suburb of Denver (Go Broncos!). He moved to Maine in 1997 to attend the University of Maine at Farmington. There, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Upon his graduation in 2000, he and his wife, Shilo, moved to the Belfast area where he began teaching.
In 2005, Kent took a break from teaching. He always had an interest in design and the outdoors, so he decided to pursue a degree in Landscape Architecture. He and his family moved to Manhattan, Kansas so Kent could attend Kansas State University’s College of Planning and Design. After graduating, he resumed his teaching career on Fort Riley, Kansas, home of The Big Red One. Kent and his family returned to Maine in 2011.
Kent is a resident of Winterport. Outside of school, Kent loves spending time with his wife and 3 boys, Sam, Harry, and Jack. He is active in helping to coach his son’s sports teams.
